ever had one of those days?

Today was one of those days. Nothing especially bad happened...but nothing especially good did either. The Mayor was just in a mood to show out and express himself all day in a loud and whiny way. I didn't even take a picture...didn't feel the need to capture this moment through Kodak. Here's hoping for a better day tomorrow.

frat boy in training

This morning we woke up to another rainy day. The Mayor is getting over a little cold, so we decided to skip Bible Study and just lay low. I didn't even get The Mayor out of his pajamas; it is truly a lazy day in our household. After breakfast, The Mayor and I watched some "Curious George" and played with his new toys from his birthday. I left him alone for 2 1/2 minutes so I could use the restroom and when I returned to him, his pants were off. He had the biggest grin on his face. I guess he is getting ready for his years in a fraternity and being the clown. He definitely has the frat boy hair going on, so why not the frat boy/party boy attitude? He loved running around in just his shirt and diaper; he refused to put the pants back on.

During lunch, I decided to let The Mayor try Doritos for the first time. One of mommy's favorite snacks, so why shouldn't I share? As you can see from the photos, he loved them. Thankfully, tonight is bath night.

the mayor turns 2

What a weekend! We were so busy I didn't even have time to post new blogs; so this will be a catchup blog, filled with lots of pictures. The in-laws and nephews arrived on Thursday (my sister-in-law and her husband got here Friday). The Mayor LOVED having them here. He was so happy to have "new" playmates here at the house (I can only imagine how boring it must be for The Mayor to play with mommy day after day).

Saturday morning was the big party. This year's theme was Elmo. I made a cake and cupcakes for the kids. The Mayor was much cleaner this year when eating his birthday cake. Friends and family all showed up to celebrate the big 2nd birthday. The Mayor actually participated in opening his gifts; of course after each gift he wanted to go off and play. The life of a 2 year old...must be nice!

This morning The Mayor had his 2 year checkup. He is completely healthy and very tall.
Height: 36 3/4 inches (95th percentile)
Weight: 30 lbs 4 ounces (70th-80th percentile)

he loves his grandparents

Tonight PopPop again graciously agreed to watch The Mayor while we attended our small group. Another night of being spoiled rotten. They played with his Thomas train set and The Mayor wrestled with PopPop. The Mayor's dinner consisted of breakfast bars, crackers, yogurts and I am sure lots of cookies. When we picked him up, he was sitting at PopPop's desk "typing" a Word document and he knew how to work the mouse. The Mayor got to stay up until 9:00. Rockstar...

Tomorrow MeMe and Big Daddy arrive! They will be here until Sunday to celebrate The Mayor's 2nd birthday. This weekend will be one weekend filled with him being spoiled rotten. He loves his grandparents!

pure joy

Today was one of those perfect days. I am new to motherhood of a toddler, The Mayor will only be 2 on Sunday, but I can only assume perfect days with a toddler are few and far between. And I am not ignorant enough to think my child will be the exception. I know I am headed toward the terrible 2s, 3s, whatever. Every child goes through it, so I am bracing myself. But today was one of those days that as a mother I can only dream of. From the moment he woke up until the second I laid him down for sleep tonight, he was such an angel. Maybe The Mayor senses his pregnant and tired mother needed a break considering this is a crazy week in preparation for this weekend's 2nd birthday party festivities...whatever the reason, this mommy was appreciative.

The Mayor was dishing out kisses and "I yove yos" all day long. He was a happy camper to each store I dragged him to while running errands today. He chose the apple slices over the french fries at dinner. He even, brace yourself, made it through the entire two hours of nursery at Bible Study without shedding one tear. And for those of you who know The Mayor, that is something to be proud of.

Again, I am not ignorant. I am sure tomorrow will hold some sort of two year old tantrum or tears when he doesn't get his way, but that is ok, because today was the perfect day and I will remember it fondly. Pure joy...

going to work part 2

Today we ventured downtown to visit daddy at work and go to lunch. The Mayor was so excited to see his daddy and had even more fun playing at his desk and "talking" on his phone. We put daddy's headset on The Mayor and he kept answering the phone by saying "yo" (something he picked up from PopPop) and typing on the keyboard. He looked like he was an operator taking an order. So funny...

The Mayor had such a big time walking through the big corporate office with his daddy. I couldn't tell who was more proud of who...either way, it was a great day.

saturday showers

This title has two meanings: yes, sadly, we woke up to rain...again. I swear, if I ever need to go back to work, I am getting a job as a meteorologist. Apparently, you do not have to be accurate. Last night the weather report was sunny and 58; this morning it was rain and 51. But the real reason for this title is today was another baby shower for Meega. And this time, The Mayor was attending as a guest! Unfortunately, I forgot my good camera and my diaper bag camera's battery died on me. So the only pictures I have are from this morning after bath time and on the way home from the shower when The Mayor fell asleep from pure exhaustion.

The shower was another success. Meega racked up on some great gifts and The Mayor was so well behaved...considering he is almost two and it was 2 1/2 hours past his nap time. Luckily the hostess has a 2 year old boy too so they entertained each other and there were plenty of toys to occupy The Mayor during the shower. Tomorrow will be a low-key day so he can catch up on his sleep.

going to work

The Mayor and I visited Meega at work today. The Mayor was the typical Mayor, walking into people's offices, making his rounds greeting the employees, even made himself at home in Meega's boss's office. Then he plopped himself down at Meega's computer and went to work. The Mayor, our little businessman in training.

rainy days and cookies

Today was another rainy day. So what better way to spend the rainy day then making cookies! The Mayor and I headed to Publix this morning to get chocolate chips to make chocolate chip cookies. When we got home, I realized I was out of vanilla extract...boo! Luckily my friend Lauren called at that exact moment and I was able to borrow some from her...whew, crisis averted!

While we were at Lauren's, she gave The Mayor a sucker...perfect, he could eat the lollipop while I made the cookies. He loved it. He thought it was so cool watching the mixer go around and around...once he was done with his lollipop, I did what any sensible mother would do. I gave him some chocolate chips. Hey, if you can't eat junk during a rainy day, then what good is the rainy day?? No shock - he loved them!

Now The Mayor is napping (a feat within itself considering the amount of sugar I just put into him) and I am waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven. Yum, warm cookies and milk...could there be anything better?

we love a party

Yesterday was Meega's baby shower! (I know, I should have posted this last night...but I was so exhausted...). Anyway, yesterday was the exciting event! Meega's closest friends and family were able to come and celebrate Meega and her sweet baby boy who will soon be here. The Mayor even graced us with his presence once he woke up from his nap.

The afternoon was filled with great friends, fun conversation and delicious food. Meega also racked up on the baby gifts! She received so many great gifts that will all be put through a lot of use in the coming years. There is nothing more precious or fun than a baby shower. Everyone is in the best mood and giddy with excitement about the precious life that will soon be here. December can not get here soon enough...we are desperate to meet you sweet baby Brock! We love you already.

On a side note, this picture about sums up our day today...just another rainy Monday.

burt's pumpkin patch

Today we continued the tradition of visiting Burt's Pumpkin Patch for pumpkin pickin' and a hay ride. Last year, it was mommy, daddy, The Mayor and PopPop. This year Meega joined in on the fun. Uncle Jeremy had to work...boo...

The weather ended up being perfect; a little overcast and cool. Perfect fall weather. And because Burt's is located in Dawsonville about 45 minutes north from here, we were actually able to enjoy the colors of the changing leaves.

The Mayor thoroughly enjoyed pulling his own wagon and picking his own pumpkins. Such a change from our visit last year when he couldn't even walk. Next year will be even better when "bear" is here and so is his new cousin. I love this time of year!
