behind the 8 ball

I have completely fallen behind on blogging and picture taking.  I don't think I have taken one picture of Love Bug or The Mayor this week...so not like me.

Here is a little recap of where we are.

Most important, we are in the midst of finding The Mayor a new Occupational Therapist.  I have fired his current one; she just doesn't know it yet.  I canceled his appointment last week and will be canceling it again on Monday.  I'm part scaredy-cat and part waiting until I find the new OT before I make the call letting them know we are moving to another facility.  I am sure it will be fine and I know it happens all of the time, I just dread having that conversation.  The quick and dirty version of the story is I was already on the fence about her.  She is a lovely lady but I felt like she was doing this as her job and not her passion.  And I want an OT passionate about what they are doing.  She has rescheduled on me twice and is always the last therapist to pick up The Mayor from the lobby and the first to bring him back.  Last week, we were in the lobby for 15 minutes and then saw her walk into the building!  I'm sorry; we are spending a small fortune on this therapy that I expect not only for you to be at work on time, but to be giving us our full hour.  Anyway, on that particular day, The Mayor was having an off day and had a meltdown.  I ended up having to pick him up 3 minutes after I dropped him off and now he tells me he is "scared" of his OT.  He panics every time I bring up her name.  He doesn't like the fact that she held onto his arm when he attempted to leave the building to find me.  She did nothing wrong in this instance.  She should have absolutely kept him from leaving the building but the trust on his end has been broken.  And how do you restore that with a 4 year old?  Something happened during that session that freaks him out and he refuses to go back.

Next up is our sweet Love Bug turns 2.  Ugh.  How is my baby almost 2?  I have a lot to do this week and next week to prepare for the big day!  Looking forward to a house full of family and friends to celebrate our Love Bug!

And that's about all the chaos I can think to write about...more tomorrow.

sweet molly

How sweet is this little peanut?  My dear friend Hayley had her first baby yesterday and today I got to meet the sweetpea.  When I hosted her baby shower at my house back in November, we did a winter theme because Hayley wasn't finding out the gender of the baby.  Which was horribly painful for this know-it-all-who-likes-to-plan-everything type, so the birth day could not get here fast enough.  Finally, that little nugget came into the world and we couldn't be happier for the arrival of sweet Molly.  We love her so much!  I was blessed to get to love on her today and am excited to go back on Sunday, after they are home and settled, and bring them dinner and get to spend more time with her.

Since Molly was born at a hospital downtown, D took the kids to lunch so I could see the baby.  It was nice to have some time without my munchkins so I could see Hayley and Molly and it was really nice for D to get to spend some time alone with our babes.  The kids had a blast with daddy...he even treated them to an ice cream sundae.  Daddy is obviously a lot cooler than me.

Tonight was pretty low-key with spaghetti for dinner, baths and play time in the playroom.  The kids are already fast asleep and D and I are catching up on some of our favorite shows.

Tomorrow, The Mayor has his first swim lesson.  He will be excited to get into the pool but I hope he is as excited to put his face into the water!

Looking forward to a great weekend with the family!

who's this sweet little guy?

PopPop stumbled across this picture of The Mayor, taken over 2 years ago, on a day when The Mayor went to work with PopPop.

First of all, how cute is that face?!

Second of all, where has the time gone?  I remember that day when PopPop picked up The Mayor and it sure doesn't feel like over 2 years ago.

Third, I can't get over how much The Mayor looks like Love Bug in this picture...or is it Love Bug looks like The Mayor?

This week has been...ok.  The Mayor had a horrible session with his OT yesterday and afterwards we came home and he fell asleep at 10:45 AM and slept until 1:00.  Hoping he is going through a growth spurt?  His teachers said today he complained of being tired too.

He did have a great day at school so I was thankful for that.

Love Bug and I had a fun girls day today.  We went to Meega and Bennett's house for a little impromptu play date and then went to lunch with Hayley and Carolyn.  It was fun hanging with the girls.  And I'm excited that Hayley is going into the hospital tomorrow at 7AM to be induced!  Can't wait to find out if she is having a boy or a girl.  Another sweet baby coming into this world.

The rest of our week is pretty low-key and I am thankful for that.  Going to spend lots of time loving on my babies and playing outside in this springlike winter weather.

a fun wakeup call

D and I woke up at 2:30 AM to some strange crying coming from The Mayor's room.  It was strange enough that we both jumped out of bed and ran into his room.  He told us he needed to go to the bathroom.  So D put him on the potty and I told D to go back to bed.  The Mayor and I were chatting while he went to the bathroom and I noticed something on his face.  I turned on the lights and saw it was vomit.  I checked his bed and he had thrown up.  I stripped his bed, put him bed with us and grabbed the trash can.

Around 4 AM, he told me he needed to "puke in the bucket".  And sure enough, he did.  At least this time no beds needed to be stripped and he and I went back to sleep until 8:30.  At 8:30, I put on Disney for him to watch TV in bed while I took care of a few things downstairs.  I could hear Love Bug stirring so I went in to get her up.  As soon as I opened the door, I could smell it.  She had vomited too.

Considering both kids had gotten sick in the middle of the night, they were both in pretty good spirits this morning.  And thankfully, neither had a fever.  We put on some clean and comfy PJs, came downstairs and settled in for a whole lot of TV watching.  The Mayor took the recliner and Love Bug took the couch.  We stayed like this for about an hour and then I made a pallet on the floor.  They loved cuddling together and watching nothing but the Disney channel and any movie they wanted.

Thankfully, Meega went to Publix for me this morning and loaded us up on saltines, Ginger Ale and Gatorade.  These items got us through the day.

Neither munchkin got sick again, so I am praying we just had a 24 hour bug hit...and that it is now gone.  I guess we will know in the morning.

jungle gym

The kids love their dad.  And they love to use him as a jungle gym.  If he is on the floor, at least one of them is jumping on or over him.

Today was a pretty good day.  We had to get The Mayor registered with the county so he can have an evaluation done to see if he will qualify for speech therapy and occupational therapy from his future elementary school.  Of course, receiving free therapy requires a ridiculous amount of loopholes to jump through.  It took an hour to get him registered and then it will be at least 2 weeks before we get the call to schedule his evaluation...2 weeks...just for the call to schedule.  And that is assuming they don't have a huge backlog of cases.  Ugh.  Oh well, it will be worth it.

Tomorrow brings some rain...but it is also a school day so at least The Mayor will be busy.  Love Bug and I are going to chill and enjoy some much needed one-on-one time.  I miss my girl.

be mine

Because I was volunteering in The Mayor's class today, D worked from home to watch Love Bug.  It was great having all 4 of us together for Valentine's Day.  The kids were excited about their cards and new DVDs and D and I even exchanged gifts this year...which isn't something we usually do.

I enjoyed being in The Mayor's class today.  He was proud I was there; he told everyone "that's my mommy!" when I walked in.  I made a special snack and brought red Mylar heart balloons so the kids could each take one home after school.

I helped with crafts and games for the kids, and after they ate lunch, I helped pass out the yummy treats me and some other moms made for the class party.  After the party, the kids went to PE to run off some of that sugar.

We went out for pizza and then home for cupcakes to finish off our Valentine's Day.

Tomorrow the spring-like weather returns which means we will be hanging outside.  Can't wait!

i can't hear you

In case it isn't clear, my portion of the conversation is in the green bubbles.

Gotta love it when the grandparents forget what it is like to be the parents and are totally, 100% loving their roles as "spoilers" and "give-them-anything-they-want-then-send-them-back-to-mommy-and-daddy".  I can't wait to do this same thing to The Mayor and Love Bug when they are parents.

only child

Each child had an opportunity to be the "only child" today.  After a great playdate this morning at a park with a friend and her kids, (bonus, Meega and Bennett showed up!), we ran a few errands and then came home so Love Bug could take a much needed nap.

While Love Bug napped, only child The Mayor decorated his Valentine's Mailbox for school.  Each kid needed to decorate a box or bag to bring to school so on Valentine's Day the kids can put their valentines in their friend's mailboxes.  How cute is that?  I took him to the dollar store and found this red box designed to be a Valentine's Mailbox (it has a slit on each side for cards to be put in) and then I let him pick out stickers to put all over it.  He was so proud and excited.

Once Love Bug woke up, we took The Mayor to Mamie and PopPop's house for a sleepover.  The Mayor was thrilled to be spending the night over there; he helped pack his bag and even chose which stuffed animals needed to go with him.  He specifically picked a dog and said "Mamie and PopPop will love seeing this dog".  Love that boy.

After we dropped off The Mayor, only child Love Bug and I ran a few errands.  She loved being the only one with mommy but did miss her brother.  Once we got back to the car, she asked to sit in The Mayor's car seat.  So sweet.

We came home and ate dinner and then cuddled together to watch...what else...Tangled.  That movie is by far Love Bug's favorite movie and she wants to watch it 24/7.  Literally.  I let her stay up a little later and then we rocked and sang all of her favorite songs before bed.

I am now enjoying a very peaceful evening.  D is on a business trip but I am looking forward to all 4 of us being under the same roof tomorrow night.

it's over

And that is about the only good thing I can say about today.

Ugh...it was one of those Mondays.  Where by 9:30 in the morning I was wishing I could hit the reset button and do the day over again.  I swear there must be a full moon because most of the people I spoke with today were having "one of those days" with their kids.

And to top it off, Love Bug's shoes were taking from the play area at Chick-fil-a.  So irritating.  How a mother couldn't notice she was putting a different shoe on her daughter or how a mother could live with herself purposefully taking another child's shoe.  Either way, I am so annoyed.

The kids are asleep and I can't wait to go to sleep myself and start over tomorrow.

it's the super bowl, baby!

We had a great day today.  We went to church this morning and then enjoyed a beautiful day outside.  This mild winter has been amazing, but the trees are starting to bloom and our grass is starting to green...so I am hoping there isn't a freeze or cold snap coming.

Aren't these two so cute?  I just love that they were sitting together "playing" the piano.  And I really love the first thing Love Bug asked for this morning was her crown from last night.  The Mayor has even started calling Love Bug "the princess".  Oh geez, I see one little girl's head getting quite large.

Tomorrow is therapy and then our Monday Lunch Bunch with our Sunday School class.  And then this week I have got to start planning Love Bug's birthday party.  She will be two in just over one month and I haven't even ordered her invitations yet.  So not like me...

Now we are watching the Giants in the Super Bowl.  With 6:17 left in the game, it is quite stressful.  I am hoping the Giants can turn this around and win it like they did 4 years ago!

how handsome is my boy with his new haircut?

daddy/daughter date night

Tonight was daddy/daughter date night at Chick-fil-a.  I just love Chick-fil-a...one of the few establishments left who value the family.  So precious to have one night where they spoil the daughters and treat them like princesses and a great opportunity for daddies to teach their daughters how a real man treats a lady.

Love Bug and D enjoyed a night of chicken nuggets, fries and one-on-one time.  I enjoyed cuddling with my boy.  Unfortunately, I have been sick all day so cuddling was about the only thing my body could handle.

This morning I did have enough energy to take The Mayor to get his "crazy hair" cut.  I am sad I didn't get a picture but I will tomorrow.  And this time he actually let the lady put the cape on him...which is huge.  I was really proud of him.  He did panic a little around the ears but all-in-all, I can not complain.  And the best part was he was proud of himself.  He thanked the lady who cut his hair and couldn't wait to get home to show D.  He talked about it the whole way home.

I am off to bed...hoping my NyQuil kicks in shortly and that tomorrow is a new and healthy day.

how cute is that crown?  They gave them to all the little girls on their daddy date
