the tree

This morning we went out with the family to a Christmas Tree Farm to pick our tree for the year.  It is the second year in a row we have gone to this tree farm and it is easily my favorite place to get a tree.  To say the scenery is beautiful is such an understatement.  Unbelievably gorgeous and quiet.  Such a peaceful location.  You can chose to cut your own tree down or pick out a Frasier Fir that is already cut (because they come from North Carolina).  I am a Frasier Fir girl so that is the route we go.

We picked our perfect tree and took a ride on the tractor around the property.  Of course if there is a tractor ride, The Mayor is going to want to ride it.  After we left the farm, we all went to lunch and then PopPop and Mamie delivered our tree (PopPop put all of our trees in the back of his truck).

We spent the rest of the afternoon decorating.  There are 1200 multi-colored lights on this tree...insane.  This tree is definitely one of the tallest we have ever had and so dense.  Didn't realize it was going to require that many lights!  The tree is so dense that after D put on 800 lights I had to go to the store to get 4 more boxes because you could barely see the lights D had already put on the tree.  But I am so happy with the tree.  We made the switch to multi-colored lights last year...thought it would be more fun for the kids.  I don't think they would care what was on the tree...they just love having this huge tree in the house.

It took a lot longer to get the ornaments on the tree this year because our handy dandy 4 year old wanted to help.  It was totally worth it.  He was so happy taking the ornaments from D and bringing them to me at the tree.  Some of the easier ones to hang (that have a string instead of a hook) I let him hang and he just thought it was the best thing ever.  Once the tree was done and Love Bug woke from her nap, they just spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the tree and looking at the ornaments.

After dinner, we loaded up and drove around looking at Christmas lights.  We only went through a couple of neighborhoods and it still took about 2 hours...but they had so much fun.  Love Bug fed off of The Mayor's excitement...especially when they saw an inflatable...especially if the inflatable was Santa.

Without a doubt, this is going to be the best Christmas ever.
